THIS DAY IN HISTORY:Kobe pranks Smush Parker
The Lakers played the Denver Nuggets on January 5th, 2007. Laker point guard William Henry Parker, better known as “Smush,” had 23 points, on 9 of 14 shooting, including 3 of 4 from deep, one behind his career-high of 24, scored on January 14th, 2006 versus the Golden State Warriors.
With the game locked away, the starters rested during the 4th quarter which, somehow, included Smush. As the story goes, Kobe Bryant knew Smush was excited to set a new career-high in points, and told his young point guard that Phil Jackson wanted Parker to check back into the game. Smush eagerly popped up and ran down the sideline to the scorer’s table, before Phil Jackson called him back to the bench to sit down.
The video above shows Kobe and his teammates enjoying a good, old-fashioned prank.
Don’t feel too bad, though. Just one week later, Parker would go on to set a new career-high, scoring 26 against the Orlando Magic.
