SCOTTIE PIPPEN, JORDAN’S FERRARI AND A FIRST DATE:
From The Sporting News:
As a 16-year-old Jason Franklin picked up the phone and called the girl with whom he planned to share his first date. His call was preemptive, a warning that his famous friend would chauffeur on their date. He wanted to thwart any chance of frenzy.
This friend was Chicago Bulls forward Scottie Pippen, who had recently swapped his new Porsche for a new Ferrari, Michael Jordan’s new Ferrari.
The plan for Pippen to drive had been hatched only nights before. Franklin, a Bulls ball boy at the time, didn’t have a driver’s license and needed a ride to and from the mall. Franklin stood in the Bulls locker room and explained his circumstances. Pippen volunteered.
“There was a Bulls game a couple nights before, and the guys on the team were like my big brothers,” Franklin said. “So we were talking and I was telling the guys how I had asked out this girl. Scottie asked, ‘How are you going to pick her up for the date?’ And I said, ‘Probably my mom was going to take us.’ He started laughing and volunteered to take us and pick us up from the mall so we could go see a movie and have dinner.”
