“This is a very difficult and painful day. I love the game, I love the Portland Trail Blazers and I love our fans, but after consulting with my doctors, I will seek a determination that I’ve suffered a career ending injury, pursuant to the rules of the collective bargaining agreement.”
“My family and health are most important to me and in the end this decision was about them and my quality of life. I want to thank Paul Allen, Larry Miller, Coach McMillan, the entire Trail Blazers organization and our fans for all of their love and support during my time in Portland.”
“It was a great ride.”
-Brandon Roy
“Roy is probably the best player I’ve played against. To me he is the best shooting guard. Not on defense now, defense is kind of suspect. He’s the best player I’ve played against, outside from a guy from my hood in Queensbridge. A guy named Mike Chafley. He went to jail a couple of years when he was 15 or 16 years old, but he was the best player I played against, and now it’s Roy.”
“Roy. 365 days, seven days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game.” - Kobe Bryant, on the toughest player for him to guard
BREAKING: Portland Trailblazer, Brandon Roy will retire.
He’s done. Those bad knees. Poor guy. [source]
“CHANGING OF THE GUARD”
Created by: Tyler Lang
Tyler explains, “I made this piece in response to this almost awkward position I feel as a fan of Portland right now. Roy who’s been the face of the franchise (deservedly so) is obviously a very different player now. Each night I feel like I’m watching the downfall of a great baller. LaMarcus Aldridge has brought a fresh bounce, and a strong identity for this team of misfits to hold on to. It’s sad, it’s exciting, it’s a great time to be a Portland fan. Rip City!”
Tyler emailed me this two minutes ago, and I liked it so much, I put it up directly. Beautiful design. Great story behind the piece. That’s the idea of the project.
