PLAYOFFS 2012: Kobe Bryant
From #BTL contributor Mink Couteaux, prints and t-shirts available here.
Someday, I’ll write far too many words on this idea, but only because I wholeheartedly believe it.
Kobe may agree to work with others, but ultimately, he is alone. In life, on his team. He’s a loner. And he likely will be his entire life. Even the traditional Japanese pursuit of perfection aligns perfectly. Kobe Bryant is exacting and concentrates on doing exactly one thing well. He is a warrior.
Of course this also means Kobe must eventually leave LA to roam the countryside in search of fulfillment, which only comes with being “the best to ever play.” It would (will) be sad, but not only would I support Kobe joining other teams to chase titles, I’d encourage it. Nothing would be more Kobe, than Kobe doing whatever it took to get his 6th, 7th or 8th ring.
It is his destiny.

*A reader wrote in and adjusted my statement - I mean the Ronin subset of the samurai ilk. Kobe Bryant is a Ronin.
“Look, we don’t get five championships by being sympathetic towards each other and kissing each other’s ass during the game. I’m going to demolish him. He understands that. If he switches off on me in the post, there’s going to be problems. I’m sure he’ll put an elbow right in my back, and that’s why we love each other.”

Derek Fisher returns to Staples, tonight.
Kobe goes for 40 again. Danke für die #IllegalGermanKnees.

Kobe played against James Harden and DeMar Derozen at the Drew League in LA. Bryant had 43 points, but the game was tied with a :15 seconds left. They decided not to double Bryant.

Oh, it’s true.
Good “Old Kobe” made an appearance in the Bay Area tonight, as opposed to the Bad “Old Kobe” who takes a ton of shots and swears at his teammates. Even the jaw was jutted.
Mamba went for 13-21 from the field, including a perfect 11-11 from the FT line, to score 30 of his game-high 39 points in the second half of a shootout in the Golden State.
Lakers win a good one, on the second night of a back-to-back.
