BACKSTORY:
- Rumors swirl just before the trade deadline that the Orlando Magic would fire Head Coach, Stan Van Gundy and General Manager, Otis Smith, and allow Dwight Howard, at his behest, to choose their replacements.
- Today, with the Knicks and New York media in town, Van Gundy confirmed he knows Dwight has asked the owners to fire him, telling reporters:
“I know he has…I was told it was true by people in our management right from the top.”
- However, just minutes later, Dwight walked in, put his around Stan, and continued to lie about the whole affair.
OPENING DAY
…kinda. I know they played a pair in Japan already, and I know the next two days are technically considered Opening Day as well, but for just this post, humor me.
Two things:
- I’m basically certain LeBron James is the Best Athlete in the World. I have full confidence he could be an outfielder for the Indians, or break all of Jerry Rice’s records with the Browns. I bet he swims faster than Phelps, and out-tennises Novak Djokovic. I’ve clearly lost your attention.
- Give me back your attention for another second: For all your baseball needs, please follow the incomparable Mighty Flynn.
REPORT: Dwight staying in Orlando for one more season?
Does that mean I can’t post this photo?

BANNED BROTHERS by KevRoche
Multiple NBA insiders believe the Chris Paul, 3-team trade between the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and New Orleans Hornets was vetoed by NBA Commissioner David Stern because it was widely known the Lakers had follow-up trades for Dwight Howard, and a replacement power forward, in place and ready to execute.
Basically, “The Neil Plan,” as laid out on this site on June 23rd, was happening.
In the most dastardly move ever pulled off by a standing sports commissioner, David Stern turned the Lakers future into a group of….BANNED BROTHERS.
