KOBE IN THE PHILIPPINES, 1998
In 1998, as an NBA Lockout pushed the start of the season, Kobe visited the Philippines draped in Adidas stripes, and attended a Philippine Basketball Association Finals game.
At halftime, Kobe was given some sort of Black Eyed Peas rock concert headset to make an announcement, at which time a brazenly drunken Filipino man begged him to dunk “just once.”
Kobe not only obliged the dunk request, he broke out every 1998 playground move he could think of, again, covered head to toe in Adidas’ finest black satin. In typical Kobe fashion, he hits a long jumper just before leaving the court to raucous applause.
And one last reminder: this was all at halftime of a PBA Finals game.
